Richard Starkey once made a great edit because somebody had imported the sound incorrectly. He was cutting his first feature. Footage arrived of a man leaving prison and going shopping for expensive clothes. There was no sound, so Richard assumed there was meant to be no sound, put gangster music over it and built a montage. The director loved it. Only afterwards did Richard discover the footage had arrived mute by mistake. A machine might have identified the missing audio. The human made something out of it.
In post production there is no right or wrong, only a feeling of what could be better, what could be more engaging, what could help the filmmakers give their human viewers more of what they came for.
