Luca Davie is twenty-one and has none of my ceremony about AI. I look at a new tool and think about what it means for civilisation. Luca opens it. Then builds something. I once watched him produce the beginnings of a custom merchant dashboard in roughly forty-five minutes. When I asked why he’d build something rather than carry on doing the work manually, he looked at the problem with the bafflement of somebody being asked why he uses a kettle. “Why make something that takes six hours to do manually,” he said, “when it takes fifteen minutes with AI? It’s not necessary.” This may be the generational divide in one sentence.
