I interviewed my mum, Glynis, at seventy-two, which meant no chance of getting away with a grand theory just because I’d phrased it nicely. She isn’t worried about AI taking her job. She’s looking further down the road, at the people still preparing for theirs, wondering what happens if the machine gets cleverer while we get less practised at thinking for ourselves.
Why would human beings be incentivised to continue improving their intelligence and their skills if you’re getting AI to do it anyway?
