  • Chatbot scepticism

Defining moment Search was already ordinary before they entered the workplace.

Generation Z is search-native. An answer has always been somewhere within reach, so the real skill was never finding one. The big task was comparing four and deciding which deserved to be believed. That breeds fluency with platforms, and fluency is not the same thing as trust. A preference for Pinterest over a chatbot: a judgement about which tool actually answers the question, made by someone entirely comfortable with both.

They also reach work at the exact moment polished machine output turns cheap, and the timing carries some danger. A confident answer can feel authoritative long before enough slow experience has piled up to show what is missing from it. The fix is dull and practical: make review, source-comparison and accountability visible parts of the job, instead of trusting that a clean-looking answer has already done that work. Navigation they were born holding. The muscle worth guarding is knowing where the navigating should stop and a human should take responsibility for what comes next.
