Gen Zalpha is provisional on purpose. The book gives it one disputed birth year and a deliberately flimsy source: the population of a single netball team. Not a settled demographic science.
Children born in this year learnt the internet as somewhere to search, then watched generative AI arrive as something to ask instead. Old enough to remember the first way, young enough that the second turned up before their habits had set, they make a tiny but revealing hinge. Searching for a source and being handed a fluent answer are not the same act, and the swap moves where doubt, effort and checking enter the task, usually by subtly removing them. Gen Zalpha gives a name for that hinge while leaving the uncertainty on show. Read it as something observed, not a claim filed with the demographers.
