Kara Fox
Author of Human Still Wins
Kara Fox is the author of Human Still Wins, a book about the human qualities that become more valuable as artificial intelligence makes competent work cheap and immediate.
Who Kara Fox is
Kara Fox is a writer, strategist and Chief of Staff at Ecommerce Counsel, an ecommerce marketplace agency in Cape Town. Her work often comes down to a deceptively simple question: what should the machine handle, what still needs a person, and who takes responsibility when the line is drawn badly? Before this, she worked across advertising, entertainment, luxury, recruitment and animal welfare, and founded Fox Factor, where she writes about staying useful as the tools change. Human Still Wins is her first book.
Why she wrote Human Still Wins
It began, less nobly than these things are meant to, at two in the morning in a notes app. Kara was trying to answer the question that had followed her through meetings, school runs and increasingly strange conversations about work: if AI can do more of the competent stuff, what is left for us? The answer was not a list of tasks machines cannot yet perform. It was a set of human qualities that become more valuable precisely because the machine is getting better: trust, judgement, taste and courage, all standing on a floor of responsibility. She wrote Human Still Wins because fear is a poor career plan, but pretending nothing is changing is worse.
How Human Still Wins was researched
To test the argument beyond her own desk, Kara interviewed people across five generations, from an eleven-year-old to Baby Boomers, alongside founders, executives, creatives, technologists, parents and people doing ordinary work while the ground shifts beneath it. She combined those conversations with workplace observation, published research and the lived detail that tends to disappear from futurist predictions. The result is not a claim that humans will always win every task. It is an inquiry into what becomes worth more when competent output becomes cheap, and who must still answer for what happens next.
The four Soul Skills
Kara Fox describes Trust, Judgement, Taste and Courage as the four Soul Skills — the abilities that matter more, not less, once speed and fluency are available on demand.
Trust
Trust is earned through patterns of conduct, reliability, risk and relationship. It cannot merely be announced.
Judgement
Judgement is the ability to decide what matters, what applies, what can be ignored and what must be done when the evidence is incomplete.
Taste
Taste is the ability to recognise what is fitting, distinctive, excessive, flat, alive or worth keeping.
Courage
Courage is the willingness to choose and act when the cost is real and certainty is unavailable.
Trust, Judgement, Taste and Courage stand on a floor of Responsibility. Responsibility means that a human being remains answerable for what is chosen, accepted, released, refused or allowed to happen.

In her own words
Taste is nowing something is wrong before you know why and can prove it.
